Coastal Alaskan Brown Bear (clamming) – Lake Clark National Park, AK

This bear  (Ursus Artos)  is supplementing its’ diet of sedge grass, berries, and salmon with clams and mussels in the intertidal area between the land and the ocean.  They spend hours digging, opening, slurping, and digging again.  In the spring when the snow covers other sources of food, the bears come to the beach.
