The Eastern Screech Owl (Megascops asio) comes in two colors, gray or reddish-brown with a complex pattern of bands and spots.  They can be very difficult to see since they blend when perched with the tree bark.  Eastern Screech owls hunt mostly at night and roost in areas close to the edge of streams in evergreen or deciduous woods.
